What we do...

Justine designs knitting patterns, mostly for babies - but a couple are for adults, some are for sale and some are free - go have a look!

We used to sell exclusive knitwear for babies here - we don't do that any more (see right) but you can occasionally purchase our garments at our Etsy Store, this is where we sell samples and shop over runs.

Baby's needs are foremost in our designs - the smaller sizes have shorter sleeves and legs, as babies pull their legs and arms up and in, and all garments have wider armholes and necks - to avoid dressing trauma for parents and babe.

whats

up?

Just Jussi has grown to a point where some  decisions need to be made... I can't meet the level of demand myself and do not want to outsource overseas.

I have been wrangling with a moral dilemma for a while now.  I can grow my business and produce more garments, but in order to do that I will have to follow my contemporaries in this business and employ knitters as "self-employed contractors".

These people (often elderly or those who live alone) end up being paid $1.00 to $5.00 an hour - yes even in a 1st world country like New Zealand. I regard this as sweatshop labour and refuse to be part of it. I understand that these people agree to these rates, however I still cannot accept it as anything less than exploitation.

I will not pay these rates, and therefore cannot compete with those who do. I have decided to continue creating patterns for sale, and selling garments to a couple of small shops and by commission.

thank you

Jussi
